>Artist's Bio: Tommy Thompson, a traditional plein air oil painter, worked as an illustrator for more than 30 years prior to taking up painting. Thompson supervised the art and photography department of the Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station at Mississippi State University for seven years. He and his two daughters captured the essence of small town Americana in more than 350 drawings of towns across 12 states (www.villageprints.com). During the past 4 years, the plein air painter has captured on canvas various regions of the country, including Alabama, Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, North Carolina, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Vermont, and Wyoming. Most recently he traveled to the Canadian Rockies to record the natural beauty there under the tutelage of Kevin Macpherson. Thompson has studied with Ken Auster, Kenn Backhaus, Roger Dale Brown, John Budicin, Scott Christensen, Paula Frizbe, Daniel Greene, Kevin Macpherson, Ned Mueller, Michael Shane Neal, Jason Saunders, and Dawn Whitelaw. His work was featured in the May/June 2007 issue of Greater Nashville House, Home, and Garden magazine. A Washington, DC, interior designer chose two of his paintings for the Board Room of St. Mary's Hospital in Knoxville. The painter was invited to paint the Atlantic seacoast during October with the host of a PBS art show. The Brentwood (TN) Arts Foundation invited him to conduct a solo exhibition of his work at the Brentwood Towne Centre Theatre during October 2007.
