>Artist's Bio:
Following in the footsteps of many other
painters, Tommy Thompson was an architectural and commercial illustrator
for more than 30 years before advancing to painting oil landscapes in
2002. He now concentrates on painting pastoral landscapes that include
horses, figures, and architecture. His paintings are a blend of realism
and impressionism and evoke a sense of peace. Thompson has studied under
some of the nation's top painters including Kevin Macpherson, Ken Auster,
Kenn Backhaus, Roger Dale Brown, Scott Christensen, Ned Mueller, Michael
Shane Neal, Jason Saunders, and Dawn Whitelaw. During 2007/08, he was
invited to conduct four solo exhibitions by art associations in
Birmingham, Guntersville, Memphis, and Nashville. Thompson is a member of
the Oil Painters of America, Portrait Society of America, Alabama Plein
Air Painters, Landscape Artists International, Art for Patronage, and the
Chestnut Group, a nonprofit alliance of landscape artists of Nashville,
TN. He is a Founding Artist of Discovered Artists Online Gallery of
Chicago, IL. Thompson's work is also displayed at "The Row @ The
Factory," and the Heirloom Shop, both in Franklin, TN; Willis-Gray
Gallery, Decatur, AL; and Loblolly Interior Market, Columbia, TN. His
work was recently reviewed in the magazine, American Art Collector
(October 2008), and the October 2008 issue of Hills and Hamlets
includes a feature article about the artist's work. Twenty-seven of
Thompson's paintings and his bio are included on the website of
Southwest Art at southwestart.com. The Winter 2008 issue of Horses
in Art, distributed throughout the U.S. A. and Canada, will carry an
article on his artwork. His childhood near Starkville, MS, instilled in
him a love of nature. Now living near the Tennessee River in Florence,
Alabama,
Thompson receives inspiration for his landscape paintings from the natural
surroundings. Travels to Arizona, Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, New
Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont,
and Wyoming, as well as Canada and Europe, have afforded the artist a wide
array of subject matter.
